Wood Roots

We are a small artisanal company based in the North East of France. All our products are made on a small scale by a passionate, self-taught wood worker .

Through our designs, we'd like to show that it's possible to create objects that are beautiful, natural and durable.

My story

Like most people in the world I didn’t realise what I wanted to do in life. The diverse personal and professional experiences that shaped my journey lead me to the creation of my own business. Using skills and knowledge learned along the way, I found a craft that allows me to develop my creativity and express myself, in accordance to my values.

I taught myself woodworking and the rest is still to be written...

There is something gratifying in the experimental process of creating a unique piece from start to finish, giving it a purpose and place in the home, turning raw materials into useful objects for the day-to-day life.

Authenticity

All our products are made by us, in our workshop, following the inspiration of the moment, the patterns of the wood, and the requests of our customers.

We experiment, work with the irregularities and imperfections of the wood, making them part of the design, creating objects that are made to last, and that will bring life into your home.

Sustainability

We don't do things like others: we work on a small scale, using sustainably sourced materials.

Our wish is to offer an alternative to mass production and show that it's possible to create beautiful objects with a purpose, while contributing to a fairer, more sustainable future.

Disclosure

Wood is a natural product that responds to temperature and humidity variations by expanding and contracting. Sometimes these changes may be noticeable in the physical appearance of the product.

We advise you to keep the product in consistent, stable environment to minimise the affects of temperature and moisture change in the atmosphere. Your items can experience small movements and cracks as it adjusts - this is not a fault, but a natural occurrence within the fibres of a natural product.

FAQ

What kind of wood do you use?

Each object is made of different wood, or an assembly of different wood species. We favour local wood like walnut, beech, pine, apple, cherry...

We source our woods locally, and also transform salvaged materials into new objects through upcycling. These salaved materials might include pallets or old furniture.

What protection do you use for your products?

We favour natural ways of protecting our wood creations against the effects of time and use.

We mostly use a mix of natural flax oil and local beeswax, and sometimes other products like water based varnish or paints that are EU Ecolabel certified.
